Paraguay Opens Embassy in Jerusalem
Paraguayan President Horacio Cartes and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu were on hand Monday morning at a ceremony to mark the opening of the third foreign embassy in Israel’s capital city of Jerusalem. “Recognition of Jerusalem represents a change in the global political map: More and more countries support our positions and want to strengthen relations with us. In recent years, Paraguay has proved through a series of courageous decisions that it is a true friend,” Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan said.

“Paraguay has conspired with Israel, the United States and Guatemala to entrench the military occupation and to seal the fate of occupied Jerusalem,” countered PLO Executive Committee member Dr. Hanan Ashrawi Ashrawi said. “We call on Paraguayan President Horacio Cartes to retract his decision and take the necessary steps to hold Israel accountable for its flagrant violations of human rights and crimes against humanity.”

Palestinian Camp Destroyed in Syrian Fighting
Forces loyal to the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad were reportedly engaged in fierce fighting against remnants of the Islamic State (IS) terror militia in a southern suburb of Damascus over the weekend. The area being fought over incudes the Yarmouk Palestinian refugee camp which has suffered heavy damage and large loss of life in the fighting. However, groups which routinely condemn Israel for security actions which result in Palestinian deaths have largely remained silent over the deaths of thousands of Palestinians in the Syrian conflict.
